Le Merchant Update

Hello parents of Le Merchant MusIQ!

Your class is by far the fastest moving class I have taught in Halifax. All the kids are doing extremely well. The last couple weeks I introduced them to the melodica and the small pipes. We all had a chance to play both. We were doing some ear training games, jumping out patterns as well as rhythm games. More intricate ones than any other school! Quite the group of musicians. Here is where we ended up.

Arlo, Milo

Made it to Level 25!  This is the last level on Volume 1 of MusIQ. We are doing a great job of reading new songs, including the famous Ode To Joy and also Mary Had A Big Fat Sheep. Make sure to keep both hands centred and thumbs on middle C! Also, the boys have been having a lot of fun playing “crash smash” aka, improvisation. They have certainly taken to the drums. Good to see music being fun!

Was missing last week, but before that we completed level 25, the last level of Volume 1 on MusIQ. We have flown through the first chapters and are really in stride. Our hands are in great position and our reading fast. We’ve learned lots of songs including Mary Had A Big Fat Sheep and Ode To Joy. We had a brief look at Volume 2 on Level 31 where we are starting to read the Treble and Bass Clef and applying it to the piano.

Anna,

Made it to level 38! Holy Moly! Lots of great reading. Playing the piano while reading the Treble and Bass Clef. We have also been introduced to our nemesis, Mr. Woodpecker. With him we work on our timing. Nothing to fear though, right Anna!

Level 61!  Treble Clef is perfect as always. Let’s keep focus on the Bass Clef! First space below middle C and above the Staff is finger 2, first line, finger 3, second space (first below staff), finger 4, second line, finger 5. Also, keep playing with Mr. Woodpecker I know it’s tough to read and perform on time but practice makes perfect!

Coltrane

Can’t stop the Coltrane! Level 73. Reading is spot on. The only thing we need to focus on is playing with a metronome (Mr. Woodpecker). It gets easier and easier but keep with it! You’re doing great.

Cheers,

Rankin
